Cleaning the streets: Rubicon Global signs 3-year, $750,000 deal with city of Montgomery, Ala

Rubicon Global, an Atlanta-based technology startup that aims to help cities become more sustainable, has signed a 3-year, $750,000 deal with the city of Montgomery, Ala.

The deal comes after the city agreed to try a six-month pilot program with Rubicon in 2018. Now, the company will equip 60 city vehicles with its proprietary “Smart City” platform.

The technology aims to improve performance, reduce maintenance costs and enhance residential and commercial sanitation service, the company said in a statement.

“The RUBICONSmartCity platform helps cities of all sizes leverage data to make smarter decisions about waste, recycling, and city operations, leading to improvements in sustainability and quality of life that map to an overall mission to end waste,” Michael Allegretti, chief strategy officer for Rubicon Global said in a statement.

Mongtomgery’s Fleet Management Department can use the technology to track vehicle usage and maintenance needs in real-time. The technology also allows drivers to note potholes, high grass and housing code issues along their routes.

Rubicon Global, which reportedly laid off dozens of employees last fall as part of a broader restructuring, has pilot programs in 35 other cities including Atlanta. In January, Rubicon teamed up with officials at State Farm Arena to recycle nearly 12 tons of waste generated by the Bud Light Music Fest and the Super Bowl LIII Opening Night.
