Welcome to the Haul of Fame, a weekly series from Rubicon Global in which we sit down with a hauler partner to talk about their company, their community, and how they’re collaborating with Rubicon in our mission to end waste.
Orlando Waste Paper has been serving the Central Florida region since 1969 with waste hauling and servicing through front load dumpsters, containers, and roll-offs, as well as offering document shredding and recycling services. With a fleet of nearly 50 vehicles and approximately 100 employees, Orlando Waste is a second-generation hauling company that has been working with Rubicon Global since 2009.
Jerry Allen, Vice President of Orlando Waste Paper and Container Rental Company, sat down with Rubicon Global to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.
How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to Orlando Waste Paper’s own company mission?
Orlando Waste: We started collaborating with Rubicon back in 2009, so right out of the gate we saw an alignment with the mission of ending waste. We look for every opportunity to be as eco-friendly as possible, and to keep as much waste out of the landfill as we can.
How does Orlando Waste Paper distinguish itself from the competition?
Orlando Waste: Since 1969, our team at Orlando Waste has prided itself on being a reliable hauler and service provider at a fair price. We always put the customer first, answering every phone call and ensuring we do what we say we are going to do, when we say we’re going to do it. In this business, reputation is everything.
What is the view of Orlando Waste Paper when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?
Orlando Waste: At Orlando Waste we view the landfill as a last resort, and we work hard to bring as much as possible into the recycling stream, as applicable. It doesn’t work every time, but we try.
How has the Rubicon technology in your fleet of vehicles helped you and your drivers in their everyday jobs?
Orlando Waste: We are using Rubicon Pro and the Rubicon pods in our vehicles, and the tech has been a great help to our fleet managers and our drivers. With service confirmations and verifications, we are able to give our drivers and customers peace of mind. Additionally, the Rubicon technology allows us to pull tracking reports and data that allows our drivers to be more environmentally friendly in how they drive, and the routes that they take. We can use the Rubicon technology to flag any issues as well, such as a blocked container or even one that has been contaminated or needs to be serviced.
Has China’s temporary ban on imported plastics caused you to readjust your business in any way?
Orlando Waste: The temporary ban hasn’t impacted us as much because we are not servicing residential recycling, only commercial.
Where does Orlando Waste Paper see itself five years from now?
Orlando Waste: We want to keep growing and servicing the businesses of Central Florida in the best way possible, expand our customer base, and offer the most efficient waste and recycling solution available.
