Haul of Fame: Mark Dunning Industries (MDI)

Welcome to the Haul of Fame, a weekly series from Rubicon Global in which we sit down with a hauler partner to talk about their company, their community, and how they’re collaborating with Rubicon in our mission to end waste.

Mark Dunning Industries, Inc. (MDI) is headquartered in Dothan, Alabama, and serves a customer set across Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas. With nearly 200 trucks in its fleet, a workforce of nearly 150 employees provides residential and commercial services with roll-off, compactor, front end, and recycling solutions. MDI is also partnering with 17 major DoD and DHS military installations across the country, serving as a reliable partner in the U.S. government’s effort to move toward zero waste. A Rubicon Global partner for ten years, MDI is a second generation hauling company.

Heath Sadler, Director of Sales at MDI, sat down with Rubicon Global to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.

How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to MDI’s own company mission?

MDI: In an effort to reduce the overall dependence on landfills, I would say that Rubicon and MDI share the same belief that through a cohesive and collaborative relationship and approach, we can make a difference. Through right-sizing and buyer education, we are always looking for new ways to help reduce the customer’s waste stream.

How does MDI distinguish itself from the competition?

MDI: By providing world-class service and a one-call resolution. Our ability to be proactive and eliminate issues before they arise are all critical to our success. We have a dedicated team of drivers and staff that are always going the extra mile for our customers, from our small pizza shop customers to our major manufacturer customers. After resolutions are designed and executed, we follow up to ensure that customer needs are met.

What is the view of MDI when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?

MDI: In an economy that’s aimed at reducing waste and enhancing the use of our resources, this is always difficult to balance. With that said, with the help of our team we are encouraged by the progress the parts of the country we service have made to make these options available.

What do you love most about the community in which you work, and the customers you serve?

MDI: We are members of every community that we serve. From purchasing parts, materials, fuel, and tires, we know the importance of staying local. Promoting a positive influence on our communities by providing for charitable needs is all a staple in MDI’s footprint.

Where does MDI see itself five years from now?

MDI: We see ourselves as a valued member of each and every community that we serve, and we see ourselves continuing the MDI tradition of doing what it takes to ensure that our customers know that we have their back and are helping them on their journeys toward becoming more sustainable.
