Welcome to the Haul of Fame, a weekly series from Rubicon in which we sit down with a hauler partner to talk about their company, their community, and how they’re collaborating with Rubicon in our mission to end waste.
D&D Carting is based in Brooklyn, New York and has been serving the waste and recycling needs of the five boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, and The Bronx since 1931. The company is a third-generation, family-run hauler, with 12 trucks in its fleet offering rear-load containers, roll-off containers, and recycling services. D&D has been collaborating with Rubicon since 2012.
Anthony DiNardi, President of D&D Carting, sat down with Rubicon to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.
How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to D&D Carting’s own company mission?
D&D Carting: Since our origin in 1931, D&D Carting has implemented a form of recycling by source separating commodities to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill. This was done to reduce disposal costs and to create revenue from the items diverted from the waste stream. D&D Carting still uses this model today, focusing on diverting as much waste from the landfill as possible.
How does D&D Carting distinguish itself from the competition?
D&D Carting: As one of the oldest operating waste and recycling companies in New York City, D&D Carting surpasses the competition by using a hands-on approach with day-to-day operations and a focus on customer service. We take great pride in the company we have built, which is now in its third generation.
What is the view of D&D Carting when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?
D&D Carting: D&D Carting uses improved recycling methods to offer our customers new ways to divert raw materials from disposal, keeping products and materials circulating for as long as possible. By doing so, D&D Carting is proud to play a part in reducing the amount of waste in our part of the world.
How has the Rubicon technology in your fleet of vehicles helped you and your drivers in their everyday job?
D&D Carting: Implementing the Rubicon technology in our vehicles and as a cornerstone of our fleet management solution has been greatly beneficial in our management of routing and customer service needs. The technology has given us the ability to help eliminate missed pickups, confirm new pickups, improve the routes and responses of our vehicles, and ensure that all of our accounts are getting the best possible service.
Where does D&D Carting see itself five years from now?
D&D Carting: Through the hard work of our employees and the dedication to our customers—a hallmark of our company—we look forward to growing our company over the next five years to new heights for future generations.
