Welcome to the Haul of Fame, a weekly series from Rubicon Global in which we sit down with a hauler partner to talk about their company, their community, and how they’re collaborating with Rubicon in our mission to end waste.
Acadiana Waste Services, LLC, based out of Lafayette, Louisiana, and has been servicing the waste and recycling market of Central and South Louisiana and Southeast Texas since 2012. With over 20 waste and recycling hauling vehicles and more than 40 employees, Acadiana Waste Services prides itself on being locally owned and operated with a cross-section of environmental and sustainability hauling solutions—from roll-off open tops to front-load collection, storm debris removal, and construction and demolition (C&D) collection. Acadiana Waste Services has been a waste and recycling hauling partner with Rubicon since 2015.
Bradley McDonald, Vice President and Co-Founder of Acadiana Waste Services, sat down with Rubicon Global to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.
How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to Acadiana’s own company mission?
Acadiana Waste Services: As a hauler, we provide transportation and sustainability services for both solid waste and recyclables. As the economy and global markets evolve, and the blend of materials shift more fully towards recycling, that mission to move more materials away from landfills matches up well with Rubicon, which is why we think we are an ideal partner. As more and more recycling happens, Acadiana Waste Services will be here to provide safe, compliant, cost-effective transportation and sustainability services.
How does Acadiana distinguish itself from the competition?
Acadiana Waste Services: We focus on providing the best possible customer service experience by growing our team with the best talent in the industry. We pride ourselves on being local and having the ability to provide quality service at a fair competitive price. Acadiana Waste Services’ rates do not include any additional administrative or environmental recovery fees and there are no hidden costs with any of our services. We think all of these factors together set Acadiana apart.
What is the view of Acadiana when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?
Acadiana Waste Services: We want to be good stewards of the resources we have been entrusted with on this planet. Our partnership with Rubicon strengthens the commitment that we have to manage the waste and recycling streams we handle in the most sustainable manner possible.
How has the Rubicon technology in your fleet of vehicles helped you and your drivers in their everyday job?
Acadiana Waste Services: Incorporating Rubicon’s technology across much of our fleet has greatly enhanced our ability to manage our drivers, our routes, and our pick-up and delivery confirmations. Having this data at our fingertips allows us to keep our trucks maintained and serviced, which results in better customer service, and provides us with better hauling and sustainability results overall.
Has China’s temporary ban on imported plastics caused you to readjust your business in any way?
Acadiana Waste Services: In our area of the country, we are actually seeing a diminishing demand for recycling services due to the increased costs of processing the recyclable material which we think will ultimately have to be passed on to the customer—and this is not something we want to do at all.
Where does Acadiana see itself five years from now?
Acadiana Waste Services: We will be a regional leader at the forefront of the waste and recycling industry. We enjoy navigating the complexities of this evolving industry of ours and will continue to do our part in providing safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services.
